OcBox Simple Super Search, fuzzy search for OpenCart 3, no Sphinx and no AI

Stock OpenCart 3 search matches a word exactly. The buyer types ifone instead of iPhone, forgets to switch the keyboard layout and types ыфьыгтп instead of samsung, mistypes one letter in canon, pastes a SKU with a stray space in the middle, and the results page is empty. That is not «no such product», that is the shop quietly pushing the visitor over to Google, where they buy the same item from a competitor.

OcBox Simple Super Search installs on shared hosting and adds fuzzy search with live suggestions to OpenCart 3. No Sphinx, no daemons, no queues, no external services, no AI keys. Just MySQL and PHP, which you already have. It tolerates typos, wrong keyboard layouts and synonyms. The index is built with a button in the admin, its state is visible in the admin too, and there is a built-in query tester. If the module is off or the index is not ready yet, the storefront keeps running on the stock OpenCart search, the shop never breaks.

Core idea: the buyer should find a product on the first try, even if they typed it with a typo or in the wrong keyboard layout. Typed ifone, saw iPhone. Typed ыфьыгтп, saw Samsung. Typed кэнон, saw Canon EOS. Pasted a SKU with a stray space, saw exactly that product. A shop with a working search sells more than a shop with the same catalogue and a broken search. That is not a hypothesis, it is basic funnel arithmetic.

Tolerates typos and wrong keyboard layouts

✓ Finds the product with a misspelt word
The buyer types ifone, the module returns iPhone. Types kanon, gets Canon EOS 5D. Types ipot, gets the iPod family. The module compares typed letters with product names and brands and tolerates one to two errors per word. Every result carries a reason for why it was picked, visible in the built-in tester.
⚠ Without this: stock OpenCart search on ifone returns an empty page, the buyer heads to Google.

✓ Understands the wrong keyboard layout
The buyer forgets to switch from Cyrillic to Latin and types ыфьыгтп. The module recognises the word samsung and shows Samsung. Works both ways: сфтщт finds Canon, Cyrillic самсунг finds Samsung. This is a common cause of empty results on mobile, where the layout switch is not always at hand.

✓ SKUs with spaces and mixed case

The buyer types the first letters and a list appears directly under the field with a thumbnail, name and price for every matched product. Clicking a row opens the product page, clicking «All results» opens the full search page. It works on the stock OpenCart 3 theme out of the box, and plugs into custom themes with a single attribute on the search input.
⚠ Without this: the buyer types, hits Enter and waits for a full page load for every variation of the query.

✓ Does not break your theme or block the page
The module does not rewrite your theme and does not step on top of another AJAX search if one is already installed. Live suggestions are a separate toggle. If your site already has its own live search, keep the Simple Super Search suggestions off and let the fuzzy search do its job on the results page.

Your own synonyms and brand aliases

✓ Synonym dictionary for your catalogue
The admin has a text area, one group per line, the first phrase is the primary one. Example: smartphone = smartphones = mobile phone, and searching for any of these phrases returns the same set of products. Up to 500 phrases, which is enough for a real shop. Two ready-made examples are shipped in the examples/ folder: one for electronics, one for auto parts, take them as a starting point and tweak for your inventory.
⚠ Without this: your titles say smartphone, buyers search for mobile, and half the queries return nothing.

✓ Brand aliases out of the box
The most common brand aliases are shipped: айфон finds iPhone, кенон and кэнон find Canon, самсунг finds Samsung, and other familiar Cyrillic variants of Latin brand names. You do not have to keep these rules in your head and manually sync them with your inventory, they ship with the module and update with new versions.
⚠ Without this: you sell iPhone but buyers search for айфон and see zero results.

Query tester right in the admin

✓ Live tester: what it finds and why
Type a query, hit «Find», see a list of products with ID, name, match score and a short reason for why each one was picked. You can tell at a glance what works and what does not, so tuning synonyms becomes a deliberate move rather than a guess.
⚠ Without this: to check the search you have to leave the admin for the storefront, search by hand, then try to remember how it behaved before your edit.

✓ A test suite that runs as a batch
Define a list of expectations: амартизатор задний => 123, 341267 => 123, and the module checks that those IDs really do land in the top 5. You can also specify exclusions (these IDs must not appear in the top 20) and a check for an empty result. Keep the shop`s key queries in here and run the batch after every dictionary edit. Up to 50 queries.
⚠ Without this: synonyms are edited by guess, next week a new synonym quietly breaks an older search.

The index builds from the admin or the CLI

✓ «Rebuild» button in the admin
A single button starts the build, with pause, resume and cancel. You see the last processed product ID and the current upper bound. While a new index is being built the previous one keeps serving customers. Cancel keeps the ready index, the shop never goes dark on search. On a 97-product demo catalogue the index builds in about a second; on real shops the number depends on catalogue size and server power.
⚠ Without this: a long build has to keep the browser tab open, tab closed, start over.

✓ CLI worker for large catalogues
For shops where the admin is limited by execution time, the index can be built from the CLI. Same engine as the admin button, just without the HTTP request time limit. After a CLI run the state is visible in the admin the same way.
⚠ Without this: the admin with max_execution_time 30 does not finish, the build aborts halfway through.

Does not break the shop when things go wrong

✓ Fallback to stock OpenCart search
Module turned off in settings, index not ready, first-time build still running, and the storefront quietly runs stock OpenCart search. No empty pages, no 500s. The shop does not pause because of the search module.
⚠ Without this: the module is installed, the index has never been built, and every buyer query returns zero.

✓ Clean uninstall
The «Uninstall» button in the module list drops every table and settings row the module owns. No leftovers in the database, no orphan indexes. Tried it, did not like it, put the shop back in exactly the state it was in before install.
⚠ Without this: the module is removed from the admin, but tables and settings rows sit in the database for years.
